devotid's history is pretty simple. They have been skateboarding and snowboarding since the eighties back when people thought skaters were thugs and all of them had knives in their socks. Twin-tipped skateboards were nowhere to be found back when we were rocking Chukka boots, plaid shirts chino-d at the top and snowboards had the wood on the outside, not the inside.
With an edjamacation in manufacturing engineering, and a good old fashion build it yourself attitude it's more rewarding than childhood. They began as a small car customizing shop in Saginaw, MI. Over time, they slowly evolved into a jack-of-all-trades manufacturing company. Still riding all the time (they had a quarter pipe built into the back of one of the garage bays, man I miss that place...) and always looking for new adventures and projects.
One weekend they stumbled out onto a friends-grandpas old ski boat. With a 40 foot stretchy rainbow rope and a makeshift wakeskate, they tasted what would be the next love for the rest of their lives. They gathered all their tools and business experience, found an old burnt down building and rescued some old I-beams from it. They built two 50 ton pneumatic laminating presses from scratch with the i-beams and began squishing and shaping skates. Then devotid taught themselves the silkscreen trade. After learning to screenprint they started putting graphics on the boards they were selling to their friends and devotid wakeskates was born.
Over the next two years they put their head down and practiced, practiced and then practiced some more. Testing out countless materials, processes, shapes and ideas until they had them tuned up and ready to sell legitimately. devotid then, after a ton of bruised knuckles, bounced checks, flooded shops and waaaaaay to many funerals, was ready to try its hand at the retail market.
devotid set out to make quality products all in-house. today devotid uses some of the same tooling and technologies as the worlds largest board manufacturers. They still do everything all in-house from printing the leaflets in your retail packaging to hand folding the shipping cartons that protect your skates on the way to your feet. Here we are 5 years later with a new 2010 season approaching. They have some of the best machines and team riders they could have ever wished for.
