UNION PARK Update 1.2- We finished the 12 Gauge Winch Co. VIP winching station today. It has two 2 inch trailer hitch receivers mounted solid to in-ground 6 inch wooden posts. It will be occupied by 12 Gauge Winch Co. The Official sponsor of the Grand Opening Event at UNION Park. Come see these dual pulling monsters in action. Also went out last night and bought a couple hundreds bucks in steel to make a couple steel hand rails. Real skate plaza style. Big gaps and a new style of pool set up... Something a little different that we think will open up many more ideas for tricks out of the start pool. 55+ rail-road ties and still alot more to go. Throw in some huge corrugated drain pipe, a couple boxes of marble/ tile flooring and a nice kicker transfer to rail... Well thats all for now. See you on the next update... Much more to come.

Silver Spray Sports/ Air Nautique of Fenton, Michigan has joined the list of sponsors. Come stop by their on-site vendor booth and check out the new 2010 line up of rad Nautique Wake boats. They will have a nice collection of fresh wakeskates and products for you to shop through all weekend. THANK YOU Silver Spray Sports!

June 18th, 2009

After a firm handshake and some amazing dinner, It's officially time to construct. We need lots of wood... Marble... Concrete... Pool tiles... and an old refridgerator. We were thinking of pounding in a sea-wall and pumping out a land gap. But sounds a little dangerous... Tell us your thoughts.

June 14th, 2009

Well, the winch park we have been designing and planning for a while has started to become a reality... We have finalized on a location to build the permanent winching park with a 50' x 100' elevated start pool, spring fed 1 acre pond, V.I.P. lazy boys for the winch drivers, hot tubs, rope return girls, street skating influenced rails and obstacles, 360 degree arena style viewing and much more. I mean a lot more... We are just finalizing the rest before we annouce anymore. So stay tuned as more company sponsors team up with UNION Winch Park to create some of the most progressive rails and obstacles ever seen.

The Parks opening 4 day long event will also be the same weekend as the 8th annual Baja Brawl MX event, complete with 4,000 plus spectators on Labor Day Weekend. Sept. 2,3,4,5th 2009. There are still some sponsor partnerships available for the opening event. With 2008 bringing 4,000+ spectators, the 2009 UNION Winch Park grand opening event is sure to be the most attended wakeskate event ever in Michigan. Conatct Kevin from devotid for more info on how your company can get involved.

GRAND OPENING

UNION Winch Park

Millington, MI Sept. 4-6th

Baja Brawl weekend

Press Release 1.0

UNION Winch Park Project

devotid wakeskates, a local Saginaw water sports manufacturer has teamed up with Baja MX Park in Millington, MI to create Michigan's first permanent wake sports Winch Park. Using specially built 20 MPH rope towing systems, athletes will be able to ride through the entire water park and across unique obstacles. The new venue will be situated in the middle of one of the Midwest's Premiere Moto-cross racing facilities. The new water sports venue will feature a permanent 100' x 40' wide elevated pool along side a 1.5 acre pond. The park will feature an array of unique and progressive obstacles that will test any level riders skill and provide the ultimate in spectator enjoyment.

Through its developement by passionate wakeskaters and indie film makers, the art of winching now reaches into many more private, hard to reach areas for its ultimate sought after "spots", with this new venue we plan to bring that excitement to a healthy, safe and progressive environment.

Now in its eighth year of epitomizing summer fun, the Baja Brawl is one of the most popular motocross events in the midwest. Originally established as a simple Labor Day weekend of motocross racing, the Baja Brawl has evolved into much more with 3 days of knock down, drag out racing, outdoor festival activities, and entertaining nightlife. Furthermore, in the last two years of this transformation (and despite a rocky economy), the Baja Brawl has more than doubled their spectator attendance from just over 2,000 people in 2007, to 4,400 in 2008! Whether you are a serious motocrosser racing for fame and fortune or just someone looking for a weekend of family outdoor fun, you're sure to find it at the 8th annual Baja Brawl & UNION Winch Park opener.

From the time the ribbon is cut on friday morning's UNION Winch Park opening ceremonies until the last sun burned spectator trickles home monday evening, spectators and athletes alike will be treated to four days of fun and entertainment. In fact, aside from watching national caliber racers attack the grueling Baja motocross track, spectators will have a variety of interactive track and vendor activities to watch and participate in all weekend long. Devotid will have hours designated for a ride through the new UNION Winch Park as well as a 200' down hill slip and slide. So bring your sun block and swim trunks!

Friday

Starting on Friday will be the 10:00am ribbon cutting ceremony for the new UNION/ Devotid Winch Park with open practice running throughout the day to fine tune their mind-boggling tricks. Also during this time, the motocrossers will be honing there race lines with open practice and there competition will be watching closely to see if they have what it takes to take home some of the $5,000 purse and hundreds more in OEM contingencies up for grabs. On the other side of the event grounds freestyle BMX hopefuls will sharpen their skills on the massive pond ramp in an attempt to de-throne four time champ Timmy Carpenter, and take home some big prizes as well. As the sun fades away, spectators can watch the hilarious antics of some goon riding championships in a hot-seat style show-down. Lastly, some friendly mingling by the bon fire discussing setups and a movie on the jumbo screen.

Saturday

On saturday the excitement will rev up when over 1000 riders explode from the starting gates in an attempt to conquer the beast that is Baja Motocross. Meanwhile over on "Hank's Hill" faint screams will be heard as an endless line of both kids and adults will find cool relief (and thrills) when they drop into the 200+ foot downhill Cobra Slip-N-Slide; a whitewater roller coaster of twists and dips, eventually spitting them out into one of the five spring fed ponds at the Baja facility. Also for the more aggressive enthusiasts, Michigan based devotid wakeskate mfg. will be hosting a new UNION Wakeskate Winch Park demonstration and interactive riding area. The new venue is complete with 20 MPH gas powered winch towing systems and fully stocked with devotid wakeskates to cruise across the open winch park. After racing on the big track, spectators will hear a low rumbling from the pits as a mob of nearly 100 mini bikes gather to start practice for the evening pit bike races. But that won't be the only sounds coming from the pits because shortly after the first minibike motos start, Detroit Rockers "The Dirty Americans" will take the stage (just a stones throw away from the pit bike track) for an hour and a half concert, sure to keep the masses on their feet. Finishing the nights entertainment, Baja MX will air same day coverage of the final round of the 2009 AMA Motocross Nationals from Steel City, Pennsylvania.

Sunday

Racing action gets turned up on Sunday as the 3-moto racing format for the last two days begins. Big money is truly on the line for these racers, and the top prospects are sure to show how the Baja monster is tamed. Eliminations and qualifying will be running throughout the day for the UNION winch park finals to be run later under the lights. Once again, laughter and hollering will be heard all day from the Cobra downhill Slip-N-Slide on Hank's Hill. As the first day of 3-moto series comes to a close, spectators will be sure to stick around for the 2nd annual Golf Cart Open as they watch crazed motocross racers and their dads hit the freshly groomed front section of the track. After dragging all of the crippled golfcarts off of the track the crowd will stroll over to the new devotid Winch Park for an action packed showdown between professional wakeskaters competing for a $1,000 cash purse. The thrill of watching the worlds top wakeskaters ride through the company designed, cutting edge obstacles will be sure to impress any adrenaline junkie. Following the wakeskate demonstration will be a far less serious (but hilarious) reprieve with the "flop your keg win a keg" contest. This sideshow of sorts will showcase some of the pits most magnificent bellies and girths, sure to create a wake any fan can appreciate. Best of all, the prize for flopping those gorgeous girths is a KEG of beer! (over 21 of course) After the laughter and hysteria has subsided, a serious tone once again covers the pond for more pond jump battles for the throne and the cash spoils it comes with. Crowds will be in awe when these athletes lay it all on the line for a chance to de-throne the 4 time champ and take home the big time winnings. As always for the select few that have enough energy to keep their eyes open for a couple more hours, they can grab a blanket and a friend for another outdoor movie in front of the jumbo screen.

Monday

On the last day of the 8th annual Brawl, spectators will be sure to stick around for the second half of the 3-moto format as racers fight to the finish for the overall, and the big cash prizes. Furthermore, aside from the $5,000 purse, over 30 classes will explode from their gate for the third and final moto and a chance to make the quickest buck they've ever made with $100 whole shots!

Facility Overview

For an outdoor motocross track and entertainment facility, Baja MX is top-notch when compared to similar outdoor venues and motocross tracks. Not only is it easy to find (follow one road from the highway and you're there!) but it also has a customer and sponsor friendly infrastructure, designed to take full advantage of the 80 acres of beautiful grass covered meandering hills and spring fed ponds. More over, Baja MX has evolved its reputation as an active and fun environment with a great music and quality, seamless announcing from professional voiceover, and multiple personality extraordinaire, Peter "The Great" Daoust.

MotoCross Track

Baja Motocross is synonymous with a fun, yet grueling experience for motocross racers everywhere. Since it's change in ownership in 2000 (to Pat and Rosanna Grzebinski), the Baja Motocross track has served up some of the most exciting battles between Loretta lynn hopefuls and high-profile professionals alike from all over the country. The overall Layout, obstacles, and terrain combination has been described as "One of the best ways to train for the transition from amateur to pro". Which might explain why so many young amateur prospects have raced Baja MX. Furthermore, unlike many other tracks around the US, Baja MX allows close and elevated spectator viewing for roughly 80% of the track.

UNION Winch Park

A newly constructed permanent water sports "skate park" designed with specially built, gas powered rope-tow systems and wakeskates. The park was designed with the spectators view in mind and for hosting progressive wake events. It features unique skate style inspired obstacles brought to life by local and national supporting companies. The venue is complete with elavated VIP winch operator areas and lazy boy accomodations for the drivers (hardest job gets the best seat and treatment) 3 story elevated announcing scaffolding area, 10 zillion megawatt stereo and announcing PA system to keep the crowds up to date with the history unfolding in front of them.

Freestyle Pond Jump

Probably one of the most exciting events ever to come to Baja MX, with the exception to the racing, would undoubtedly be the Pond Jump Championship. Following the Golf Cart Open crowds will circle the one acre UNION winch park near the front of the facility to watch BMX riders go for broke in an effort to jump their way into some amazing prizes, and hopefully the prestigious Pond Jump title. Aside from all the flipping and splashing, hilarious announcing, as well as heart pounding music courtesy of DJ Korra and his state-of-the-art mobile music system, mix in a little "Aqua Man" and his Wave Runner and you have some great summer fun.
